As autumn arrived, the fruits in the forest ripened, filling the air with the scent of abundance. A lively squirrel darted from branch to branch, proudly carrying large pinecones in its paws. As it passed a patch of grass, the squirrel noticed a small hedgehog curled tightly into a ball, its back bristling with sharp red hawthorns. Unlike the squirrel, the hedgehog couldn’t reach the wild jujubes growing at the top of the trees.
With a mischievous gleam in its eye, the squirrel shook its tail and jeered, "Look at you, hedgehog! You’re covered in thorns and can’t even reach the fruit. I, on the other hand, am quick and nimble. I can pick any fruit I desire!"
The hedgehog slowly unfurled itself, looking up at the squirrel with calm eyes. "Although I may not be able to pick fruits from high places, my thorns allow me to carry many fruits at once," it replied softly.
The squirrel, unimpressed, curled its lip and scurried off, carrying a pinecone in its mouth, not giving another thought to the hedgehog’s words.
However, the weather soon changed. Dark clouds filled the sky, and a cold wind began to blow. In the midst of this, the squirrel’s pinecone slipped from its paws and tumbled into a thorny bush below. The squirrel tried in vain to retrieve it, but as it reached for the pinecone, it was pricked by the sharp thorns and cried out in pain, unable to free the object.
Frustrated and helpless, the squirrel stamped its paws anxiously, growing more desperate. At that moment, the hedgehog approached slowly. Without speaking a word, it curled up once more and rolled into the thorny bush. The thorns on its back caught the pinecone securely, and with careful precision, the hedgehog rolled back out and handed the pinecone back to the grateful squirrel.
Embarrassed, the squirrel’s face flushed with red. "I’m sorry," it said, its voice tinged with regret. "I shouldn’t have laughed at you earlier. Your thorns are actually quite useful."
The hedgehog simply smiled and nodded. "Everyone has their own strengths. When we help each other, we can accomplish much more."
From that moment on, the squirrel and the hedgehog became close friends. The squirrel helped the hedgehog reach fruits high in the trees, while the hedgehog assisted the squirrel by carrying fruits. Together, they enjoyed a fulfilling and fruitful autumn season.
Moral: Each individual has their own unique strengths and weaknesses. It’s important to avoid mocking others for their shortcomings and instead learn to appreciate their abilities. Through collaboration and support, we can all achieve more.
